In Conversation: Charles Correa + Jyotindra Jain

A conversation between architect Charles Correa and Art Historian Jyotindra Jain was organised on November 30, 2014 at the ISC Auditorium in Bengaluru. The event also hosted a screening of Sankalp Meshram’s film ‘Into the Unknown’ on Charles Correa’s Champalimaud Centre.

This conversation was dedicated to the memory of Vimal Jain – an architect and founding partner to a Bengaluru-based firm Architecture Paradigm. He passed away in November, 2013, succumbing to injuries sustained from a fall at a project site.

Brick House: iSTUDIO architecture

A mélange of materials composes the eclectic spaces of the Brick House – a 2500 square feet outhouse set within the landscape of Wada near Mumbai.  Designed by Prashant Dupare, Shriya Patil and Amit Patil of Mumbai-based firm iSTUDIO architecture, the house invites an inquisitive mind to explore alternative building ideas and question conventions through an architecture that is derived through explorations of form and construction processes.

Bhatia Farm Residence: The Vrindavan Project

Engaging in a meaningful dialogue between elemental forms, alternative construction techniques and the philosophy of sustainability is the Bhatia Farm Residence by The Vrindavan Project in the rural landscape of Onde in Maharashtra.

Oriented in the north-south direction, a swimming pool, a gazebo and a main residence structure subtly angled away compose the design.

Wrap Art & Design Factory: Design Bureau

Encompassing a dual participatory programme dwelling on production and retail, the Wrap Art & Design Factory by Delhi-based Design Bureau has an ideological, spatial, textural richness that seeks to consolidate layers of inclusiveness within its low-slung scale.


New Delhi towards its southern end fringes into a curious multiplicity of neighbourhoods comprising of temples, farmhouses and makeshift factories amidst the growing residential sprawl. The context is rurban at the most with each nuance built objectively with an introverted view. Assertively within this contradiction in Chattarpur, a ‘lal dora’ (urban village) as the architects of Delhi-based Design Bureau put it, is sited the Wrap Art & Design Factory.
